Amazon announces AI-powered innovations in delivery, inventory, robotics

Amazon's latest AI advances in delivery location accuracy, product demand prediction, and intelligent robotics will help benefit customers and employees alike. While these systems work behind the scenes, customers will certainly experience their benefits: more accurate delivery locations, faster shipping options, and improved availability of the products they want, when they want them.Powered by generative AI, this new system harnesses data from dozens of sources, including satellite imagery, road networks, building footprints, customer instructions, information from prior deliveries, and street imagery, to create a comprehensive delivery solution for millions of locations. This technology helps drivers better navigate complex and varied environments—like multi-building apartment complexes or brand-new neighborhoods that don't yet appear on navigation apps—so they're able to deliver packages to customers where they want them. Before Wellspring and generative AI technology, we were not able to leverage the wide range of locational information that helps us create a better understanding and depiction of the physical world for delivery partners. Here’s how Amazon fulfillment centers and delivery stations prepare for big shopping events like Prime Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday.

Council Post: AI For Delivery Drivers Is Not What You Think

Making drivers more productive and giving them more support to do their jobs effectively is what new advancements in AI are all about. Driverless trucks—powered by computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI)—can haul freight, but they can’t provide white glove delivery service for a sectional sofa or install a new HVAC system at a job site. Given the rapid rate of change in the AI-powered technology market, we might see the latter sooner than we expect.Even in the world of parcel delivery, we’ve started to see how UPS is using AI to reduce porch piracy by identifying high-risk drop-off points. Amazon is using it to help drivers more quickly identify the right parcels from the potentially disorganized pile in the back of the delivery van.Delivery drivers are often the unsung heroes of a successful delivery. They’re the first to shoulder the blame when things go wrong, but they’re not usually singled out for praise when routes get completed successfully.Ultimately, if they add up to one or two extra stops per day, that’s a huge win for delivery organizations. Let’s say you’re implementing some of the AI-powered driver capabilities that we’ve been discussing.

If you’ve ever dealt with getting goods from point A to point B, whether as a delivery driver, dispatcher, or business owner, you know it’s not as simple as plugging an address into a GPS. Between traffic jams, last-minute orders, breakdowns, and missed time windows, it can feel like organized ... UK-based AI-driven parcel delivery startup Hived raises $42M - SiliconANGLE

London-based parcel delivery startup Hived Ltd.today said it has raised $42 million in early-stage funding aimed at supporting the company’s expansion into regional markets, hiring more staff and enhancing its HIVEDmind AI logistics platform. The Series B round was led by NordicNinja with participation from Wex Venture Capital, Marunouchi Innovation Partners, Elemental Impact, Yamato Holdings, Future Back Ventures by Bain & Co. and Rocketship VC. Purpose-built for ecommerce, Hived said it strives to replace legacy delivery logistics and relieve what it sees as anxiety on the side of recipients and retailers by integrating directly with modern architecture to connect retailers, warehouses, drivers and end customers. This type of inquiry, compared with other carriers, and its claims rate for lost-in-transit, damages and so on, is more than 10 times better than other industry standards. “Parcel delivery should feel seamless, not stressful, but most of the industry is still running on systems that were never designed for e-commerce,” said co-founder and Chief Executive Murvah Iqbal. The company’s AI models, working under the moniker HIVEDmind, act to update based on delivery volumes, route patterns dynamically, how long deliveries take in certain neighborhoods, where bottlenecks can occur such as courtyards or gated buildings can cause delays, or even where it’s best to park based on real-world data.Hived also operates a 100% electric fleet of vehicles. The company said it focuses heavily on sustainable architecture and is intent on scaling a delivery network that can deliver an outstanding experience for both shoppers and retail partners.
